As part of the Career Diversity for Historians initiative, the AHA is producing and making available short videos of historians working in unusual places talking about what they do. The newest video features Ramona Houston, entrepreneur and activist-scholar.

Have you ever wondered whether doctoral education in history is good preparation for an entrepreneurial career? Some have argued that a PhD is a natural fit for entrepreneurial pursuits, and the subject was the focus of a panel at a recent conference sponsored by Career Diversity for Historians and co-hosted by the University of North Carolina and Duke University. In this video, Ramona Houston chronicles her own transition to entrepreneur and activist-scholar, articulating how her education in history serves her new passion for community engagement. Houston ends with this exhortation: “Find out what makes you fly and go for it.”
